Ukraine's Rapeseed Exports in 2024/25 Drop to Lowest Level in Three Years

28 / 11 / 2024

Official statistics indicate that Ukraine exported approximately 3.14 million metric tons of rapeseed during the 2024/25 marketing year (MY), marking a 15% decrease compared to the previous season and the lowest volume recorded in the past three years.

This decline is primarily attributed to a consistent drop in oilseed yields across the country over recent seasons.

The European Union remained the dominant destination for Ukrainian rapeseed, accounting for around 89% of total exports (2.78 million tons), though this share slightly declined from 91% in the previous MY. Export volumes to the EU were down 17% year-on-year.

In terms of individual countries, Germany led imports with over 1 million tons—an 18% decrease compared to the prior season. Belgium followed with 899,000 tons, showing a 2.4-fold increase, while the United Kingdom imported 334,000 tons, more than doubling its previous intake (up 2.5 times).

Looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, the downward trend in rapeseed exports is expected to persist. Forecasts suggest that yields will reach their lowest level in four years. In addition, the potential implementation of an export duty on oilseeds—currently under active discussion—could further impact export volumes.

Analysts project Ukraine’s rapeseed exports for 2025/26 MY at around 2.7 million tons, which would represent another 15% decline from the current season.
